Background to Tai Chi
Tai Chi (or otherwise Tai Chi Chuan or taijiquan) is a sophisticated martial art from China. It is one of the 3 internal arts which place fine coordination, softness and pliability over hard muscular strength. Initially developed over 400 years ago from existing Chinese martial arts in the Chen family village, Tai Chi has reached millions worldwide, in its now miriad styles. Many people practice Tai Chi solely for its health benefits, while many others practice it as a martial art.
Tai Chi teaches people body awareness. Imagine being able to sense the subtle movements of the spine, each muscle, each joint. To have them move connected to our centre, to have them move in a connected flow in response to outer physical pressures. To have them move without endless thoughts created from constant tensions. To move and respond from the body with the mind following.
